![]() ![]() It just amazes me that nobody has hailed how good this is except because it is so hard to say it, you just have to say- WAY! Jim Dale people. You can't tell me he reads slow or any other lame comments by others. He is the most skilled and articulate reader on the face of the planet. Hello! You have NOT LIVED if you have not heard him reading Harry Potter period!!! End of story. It was "all for me" as I would just listen to the miracle of his changing voice inflections and characters so flawlessly. I did not even know for the longest time that the readings were done by one person I thought it was a whole host of people- so good were his distinct characterizations of the different characters. I used to commute 2 hours some days up to the Pudget Sound to work on peoples roofs and commute home again and Jim Dale reading Harry Potter was a miracle. hugh, I've got to say that few comments have really told the story. Nobody that has not heard Jim Dale reading Harry Potter. I came across this thread and had to chime in. I yearned for Jim Dale reading to me again Harry Potter tonight and tried to find a way to listen again. ![]() Well now that I gave my opinion, back at listening to it. The different voices he makes and how he changes the way he says things are things that when I read it happen into my mind. If I could express what Stephen makes me feel more than Jim, then I would stay that he makes me feel like I am the one reading the book, instead of someone else. ![]() Having the book read to me is quite nice, but having someone putting you into the story is even better. I made this account only to add this comment, because I have read these posts years ago and I always thought of the comments here that were quite helpful. Jim is reading the room, while Stephen is trying to "live" it, or more like bring it to life. But Stephen's way sounds more like someone is reading a fairy tale to you, rather than just reading a book. Then again English is not my primary language, so him being slower could help. Stephen reads slower than Jim and to me at least, his accent is more clear. It was quite nice to listen to him read HP, especially when I would go to work work and I would have to wait for the mass transit for a long time. I have listened to both with Jim being the first one. ![]()
